Tanya Rodriguez is an artist and graphic designer based in New York. She is an alumna from City University of New York (CUNY), College of Staten Island. She earned her BA degree in Science, Letters, and Society (SLS), which is an interdisciplinary liberal arts and science program that teaches students with research, writing, and problem solving. Additionally, she has also obtained her minors in Spanish and Studio Art. While in college, she participated in her college science student publication magazine called, The Catalyst. Initially she worked on illustrations and brainstorming ideas for the magazine. Later, she learned how to use the Adobe programs in Illustrator, Indesign, and Photoshop, since it was essential to know in the layout and design team. During her last two years of college, she became Lead Art Director of The Catalyst and she created cover designs, flyers, digital illustrations, and layout ideas. In addition, she loves to travel and she uses her travel experiences as inspiration for her work. After college, she got the opportunity to intern abroad at a contemporary art magazine with Artnobel in Barcelona, Spain. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Continuing Education Program and she obtained her Graphic Design Certificate. Recently, she created her very first coloring book for adults called Stress Free Creative: Geometric Shapes and Pattern Designs Adult Coloring Book for Stress Relieving to help those relieve their stress and to enjoy an activity during their spare time. Using all the skills she has learned, she decided to make her own art shop, Tanya Art and Designs, in which she currently sells mugs, notebooks, greeting cards, prints, puzzles, stationery items, and more.
I had the opportunity to intern abroad with a digital contemporary art magazine called, Artnobel.
The best part was that the internship took place in Barcelona, Spain. Although I was in a
foreign country, I was still gaining the skills and practice with a real-world company. I
created Artnobel magazine No. 15 layout designs by using the Adobe programs in Illustrator,
Photoshop, and InDesign. In addition, my communication with my supervisor was all in Spanish. It
benefited me by practicing the language and gaining a different perspective in the Spanish
culture. Overall, my internship experience was wonderful and I am very proud of the outcome.
